Email State Fishery Managers

In addition to contacting legislators, you can email the Alaska Board of Fisheries and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG). These agencies have the authority to set hatchery policies and management decisions.

Tell them you support applying the best available science to hatchery operations in order to protect the genetic diversity, resilience, and long-term health of wild salmon populations! Apply similar narratives to the templates here.

Choose Wild, Not Hatchery

When you buy salmon, choose genuine wild Alaskan salmon and be aware of misleading “wild-caught” labels. Some hatchery fish are marketed under this label even though they dilute wild populations. No system exists to identify or differentiate hatchery-origin fish from those of wild origin.

But you can do your best by informing yourself with this guide. 

By supporting truly wild salmon, you send a clear signal to markets and policymakers that sustainable, science-based management matters.
